Trash Service
Trash Containers
The 90-gallon refuse container being provided for your use is owned by the City of Sand Springs. The rate you pay is for refuse service, which also includes the use of the polykart.

You are responsible for your polykart. The container can easily be cleaned with a water hose or with detergent and a brush. Do not use gasoline or cleaning solutions on it. Do not put coals of fire, rocks, or other material in the container that may damage it. You will be responsible for the safekeeping and condition of the container. Keep it inside your garage, if possible, or beside your house except on your collection day. Please remove the polykart from the curb after your refuse has been collected. This will avoid theft and vandalism, as well as make our city look cleaner and neater.

Where & How to Place Collection Containers
Please set the container out for pick up right beside the curb with the short handle and windlatch hook facing the curb. When the collector has run your route, he/she will turn the container one-quarter turn. This way, you and the collector can easily see if your refuse has been collected. Please do not leave the polykart at the curb, except on your collection day.

Refuse Collection
Please have your polykart out at the curb by 6 a.m. on your designated refuse collection day. We recommend that you set the polykart at the curb the evening before your pick up day if it is inconvenient for you to get it to the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of collection. A fee applies for special pickups resulting from a failure to have the polykart out by 6 a.m. on the specified pickup day. To find out your trash collection day, call 918-246-2588.

If your trash pickup day falls on a city holiday, please reference the holiday trash pickup schedule.

What is Collected
  • Household Refuse - Only normal household refuse in the polykart or trash bags is to be collected by the Solid Waste Department. If you have more refuse than your polykart will hold, put it in trash bags and set them on top or beside your polykart. Up to eight bags of leaves, grass clippings, or trash will be picked up with your kart. Refuse in containers other than the polykart or trash bags will not be collected.
  • Limbs or Brush - Brush / limbs should be tied in bundles not to exceed 35 pounds in weight. The brush / limbs should be of a thickness of no more than four inches in diameter, and cut in lengths of less than four feet. The bundles must be placed beside or on top of the polykart.
  • Extra Pickups - For an additional charge, and with prior notice, an extra pickup can be made. The charge will be determined by the item(s) collected. To request an extra pick up, call the Public Works Department at 918-246-2588 at least 24 hours in advance of your collection day.
