A Platoon FireSand Springs Firefighters are all assigned one of three shifts. These shifts work 24 hours and then are off for 48 hours. All firefighters are subject to emergency callback during multi-alarm incidents. Firefighters staff three fire companies; two engine companies and one heavy rescue/ladder company.

All Sand Springs firefighters complete a basic firefighting academy that incorporates intensive academic and physical training. After completion of the probationary academy, cadet firefighters are assigned a shift and must complete additional training prior to the completion of their one year probationary period.

Cleaning HoseThe SSFD values education and encourages members to stay abreast of new techniques and opportunities to enhance our performance. Sand Springs boasts some of the best trained personnel in the state with over twenty Hazardous Materials Technicians, thirteen Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediates, and nine Rescue Specialist members of the Oklahoma Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (OKTF-1).
