Trash Service

WHEN YOUR REFUSE WILL BE COLLECTED:

Please have your polykart out at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your designated refuse collection day. We recommend that you set the polykart at the curb the evening before your pick up day, if it is inconvenient for you to get it to the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection. To find out your trash collection day, contact Customer Service at 918-246-2527.

If your trash pick-up day falls on a City Holiday, please reference the Holiday Trash Pick-up Schedule.

WHAT WILL BE COLLECTED:

Household Refuse: Only normal household refuse in the polykart or trash bags is to be collected by the Solid Waste Department. If you have more refuse than your polykart will hold, put it in trash bags and set them on top or beside your polykart. Up to eight (8) bags of leaves, grass clippings or trash will be picked up with your kart. Refuse in containers other than the polykart or trash bags will not be collected.

Limbs or Brush: Brush/limbs should be tied in bundles not to exceed 35 pounds in weight. The brush/limbs should be of a thickness of no more than four (4) inches in diameter and cut in lengths of less than four (4) feet. The bundles must be placed beside or on top of the polykart.

Extra Pick-ups:
For an additional charge and with prior notice an extra pick-up can be made. The charge will be determined by the item(s) collected. To request an extra pick up, call the Public Works Department at 246-2588 at least 24-hours in advance of your collection day.

WHERE AND HOW TO SET CONTAINER FOR COLLECTION:

Please set the container out for pick up right beside the curb with the short handle and windlatch hook facing the curb. When the collector has run your route, he/she will turn the container one-quarter turn. This way, you and the collector can easily see if your refuse has been collected. Please do not leave the polykart at the curb, except on your collection day.

ABOUT THE CONTAINER:

The 90-gallon refuse container being provided for your use is owned by the City of Sand Springs. The rate you pay is for refuse service, which also includes the use of the polykart.

You are responsible for your polykart. The container can easily be cleaned with a water hose or with detergent and a brush. Do not use gasoline or cleaning solutions on it. Do not put coals of fire, rocks or other material in the container that may damage it. You will be responsible for the safekeeping and condition of the container. Keep it inside your garage, if possible, or beside your house, except on your collection day. Please remove the polykart from the curb after your refuse has been collected. This will avoid theft and vandalism as well as make our City look cleaner and neater.

IF YOU MOVE:

The container is identified by a serial number and assigned to your address. Do not mark or paint on the container. If you move, do not take the container with you. If it is empty when you move, leave it behind your garage or behind your house. If it has refuse in it, place it on the curb for collection. If your new address is in Sand Springs, that address will already have a container assigned to it or you will be assigned another one.

DISABLED CUSTOMER:

Physically disabled persons may contact the Public Works Department if you are absolutely unable to get the polykart to the curbside for collection. You will be asked to provide a doctor’s statement verifying the fact that you are disabled.
