About the Board
The Board of Adjustment (BOA) is made up of five members who are residents of Sand Springs and whose appointments are made by City Council. Members serve without pay for a period of three years.
The Board of Adjustment has the power to grant property owners relief from Zoning Code requirements. The Board hears requests for variances and special exceptions and has the power to approve, deny or approve the request with certain conditions.
All BOA cases are decided in a public hearing where citizens for or against a particular request are permitted to speak. Board members may also question the applicant.
A zoning variance allows a property owner to infringe upon regulations set in the Zoning Code. A special exception permits a specific use that may not customarily be allowed in a certain zoning district.
BOA decisions may only be appealed to the District Court.
