Refuse Containers
The polykart provided for your use is owned by the City of Sand Springs. You are responsible for the safekeeping and condition of the polykart. Polykarts can easily be cleaned with a water hose, soap, and brush. Do not use gasoline or cleaning solutions. Do not place coals, rocks, or other material in the container that may damage it. Keep it inside your garage, or beside your house, except on your collection day.

Where & How to Place Containers
Please place the polykart right beside the curb for collection with the handle facing the curb. After collection is complete, the collector will turn the container one-quarter turn to indicate that your refuse has been collected. Please remove the polykart from the curb after your refuse has been collected.

What is Collected
  • Household Refuse - Only normal household refuse placed in the polykart or in trash bags will be collected. If you have more refuse than your polykart will hold, place it in trash bags and set them on top or beside your polykart. Up to eight bags of leaves, grass clippings, bundled limbs or brush, or trash will be picked up along with your polykart refuse. Refuse in containers other than the polykart or trash bags will not be collected.
  • Limbs or Brush - Brush and limbs should be tied in bundles not to exceed 35 pounds in weight. The brush / limbs should be no more than four inches in diameter, and cut in lengths of less than four feet. The bundles must be placed beside or on top of the polykart.
  • Extra Pickups - For an additional charge, an extra pickup can be made. The charge will be determined by the item(s) collected. To request an extra pick up, call the Public Works Department at 918-246-2588 at least 24 hours in advance of your collection day.
The MET Recycling Center, located at 105 E. Morrow Road, is open to the public seven days a week from 9:30am to 4:00pm. For accepted materials and additional information please visit

Household Pollutants
To dispose of unwanted household pollutants, please contact the Metropolitan Environmental Trust. For more information, please visit or call the MET at 918-584-0584.

Disabled Customers Disabled persons may contact the Public Works Department at 918-246-2588 if they are physically unable to get the polykart to the curb for collection. Customers will be asked to provide a doctor’s statement verifying their disability.
If you move, do not take the polykart with you. The container is identified by a serial number and assigned to your address. If it is empty when you move, leave it behind your garage or behind your house. If it has refuse in it, place it on the curb for collection. If your new address is in Sand Springs, that address will already have a container assigned to it, or you will be assigned new one.
